If you like the outdoors, few cities compare to Sheffield. With its close proximity to the Peak District National Park, it is a major draw for purveyors of mountain biking, climbing and orienteering. In fact, you name it, if you can do it outside, you can do it in Sheffield.
As a lover of all things outdoors, and particularly climbing, 37-year-old Matt Heason came to the city (in 1996) for those very reasons. After working as a computer programmer for a few years, he took voluntary redundancy in 2003 and used the opportunity to set up his own event consultancy business specialising in all things rock climbing – Heason Events.
As well as providing management and consultancy services, including multimedia shows, event promotion and competitions, the company also organise the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF) and Cliffhanger, two major events on the national outdoor calendar.
The Sheffield Adventure Film Festival showcases the very best in adventure films and takes place each year at the Showroom Cinema. It is complemented by lectures, panels, exhibitions and youth development projects.
