Which destination is the best for the winter blues (or summer sunshine)?

If Britain suffers more bleak winters similar to the one experienced this year then winter sun destinations are clearly going to be all the rage in the future.

The question then is: which destination is the best tonic for the winter blues? The Canary Islands are obviously popular but can good weather still be guaranteed? The Caribbean and the Far East have their attractions but involve lengthy travel times.
We decided to give Dubai a try, tempted by the promises of hot sun and a heady mixture of Arabian mystery laced with 21st century chic.
