Some wines make natural matches to certain foods, yet the beauty of the grape’s versatility goes much further than that.

Somehow there are grapes and wine styles that suit the seasons. Rosés are an obvious example, being made, it seems, just for summer. Italian reds on the whole are also summer wines in Imbiber’s eyes.
Imbiber loves Italian reds, and currently he is exploring the Barbera grape which makes ideal wines for summer drinking. The wines produce subtle blends of fruit and spice combined with decent acidity and soft tannins make them just right for the patio or al fresco dining. Generally it is nice on its own, but it works well with a wide variety of pasta dishes, chicken and grills.
